FAQs

Move-In Dates/Times

When is my move-in date?

Residents will receive their move-in date via their UT Dallas email the first week in July.

Can I move in early?

Due to our maintenance and housekeeping operations, we are not able to accommodate early arrivals. Residents must move in ON or AFTER their assigned move-in date. Residents who plan to arrive in Dallas before their assigned move-in date may wish to look at area hotels, many of which have special rates for UT Dallas students. Residents who have an extenuating circumstance may email housing@utdallas.edu for a link to the Extenuating Circumstance Early Move-In Request Form.

Can I move in AFTER my assigned date?

Yes! Residents who cannot move in on their assigned date may move in later. Residents must move in at their building’s front desk/office during business hours, and staff moving assistance will not be provided.

Can I change my move-in time?

Move-in times are set based upon the resident’s housing assignment. We ask residents to arrive at their move-in time to help with traffic flow and keep lines short. However, if residents are unable to move in at their assigned time, they may move in after, but they may need to wait while we assist people who arrived at their scheduled time.

Room Assignments & Roommates

What is Mixed Gender Housing? Can I change my Mixed Gender Housing status?

Mixed Gender Housing is an option that is affirming and supportive of LGBT+, transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary (TGNC) and ally students. Housing applicants who opt into gender inclusive housing will live with other housing applicants who have also opted into gender inclusive housing, regardless of biological sex or gender identity/expression. Visit our Mixed Gender Housing page for more information.

Residents wanting to change their Mixed Gender Housing status (either to opt in or out), need to email housing@utdallas.edu from their UTD email account. Note that making a change may affect their ability to be housed on-campus (based on availability of rooms) and/or an LLC application (if they have one).

My roommate identifies as a different gender than I do. I am uncomfortable. What can I do?

Residents wanting to change their Mixed Gender Housing status (either to opt in or out), need to email housing@utdallas.edu from their UTD email account. Note that making a change may affect their ability to be housed on-campus (based on availability of rooms) and/or an LLC application (if they have one).

When will I find out who my roommates are?

Room assignment emails will be sent the first week in July. Roommate assignments and contact information will be included in the email.

How can I guarantee that I will get the roommates I want?

Roommate requests are not guaranteed. However, we will do our best to match requested roommates together. For the best chance of being assigned their preferred roommates, each roommate should list the other roommates as their preferred roommates.

How do I contact my roommates?

The roommates’ contact information (email addresses) will be provided in the housing assignment email that is sent out the first week in July.

What if my roommates and I do not get along?

When applying for Housing, residents fill out a lifestyle questionnaire that helps the Housing office pair roommates together. We do our best to assign roommates based on their answers to the questionnaire. However, we understand that roommate conflicts may arise. During the first week of the school year, roommates will meet together with their Peer Advisor (PA) to fill out a Roommate Agreement Form. If conflict arises later in the school year, the residents may refer back to their signed Roommate Agreement Form. Their PA may get involved to help mediate the conflict. Conflicts that cannot be solved at the lower level will be addressed by a member of our full-time professional Residential Life staff.
